To setup a minimal iRoom, you must designate one machine to act as the iROS Server (it can also be one of the clients). This machine runs the EventHeap server, a Tomcat Web server that hosts some servlets, and some other iROS services.

Non-server machines can enjoy limited functionality with no special software, but to use PointRight, iCrafter, and the other iROS clients, each potential client should install the iWork Services package (which requires JDK).

Windows 95/98/NT/2000 MacOS X
  • iROS-X is the MacOS version of iROS (for OSX).
  • The iROS-X project has received support from Apple Computer to port most of iROS to OSX.

The MeetingMachine

The MeetingMachine (a/k/a "instant iRoom") is a self-contained, almost-zero-configuration single-screen iRoom designed for lightweight collaboration.  The MM itself is designed to be setup as a dedicated PC connected to a projector and wireless access points.  It incorporates some of the basic iRoom functionality, including PointRight, a limited version of Multibrowsing, and support for shared documents.

You can read more about the MeetingMachine in our WMCSA 2003 paper:
