iWork client (iWorkServices) Installation

You need to install iWork client (also known as iWorkServices) on each machine that will receive or post events (eg. machines attached to SmartBoards and laptops that run MB2Go).

This will install:
  • iROS libraries (eheap2, dataheap, icrafter as part of iros.jar)
  • Optional:
    • PointRight (see its install page)
    • MultiBrowse (includes To-Go) – requires ActivePython
    • SmartPresenter (sort of works, talk to Emre Kiciman if you want to use this now)

Install Instructions:

  1. Install jdk 1.3 or higher.  We have tested with Sun Java jdk 1.3.1.   Jre is not sufficient.
  2. Make sure java’s bin directory is in your PATH environment variable.
  3. (Only necessary for MultiBrowse application) Install ActiveState ActivePython (http://www.activestate.com), version 2.1.1 or higher. We have tested with version 2.1.1.
  4. Download iWorkServicesInstall (.class, bat) to the machine you are installing. (Both the .bat and .class files must be downloaded to the same directory).
  5. Run bat file. This should start the java installer for iWorkServices. You will be prompted for several path names.  Be sure to include the trailing slash on directories (eg. c:\iwork\, not c:\iwork).
  6. (Only necessary for MultiBrowse application) Install registry settings for MultiBrowse To-Go: Run Programs | iWork | Install MB2GO from the Windows Start menu.
  7.   Install is now complete. If you want to change your settings in the future, you will need to re-install :( To run applications (pointright and multibrowse), see their respective documentation.

Known issues:

  • The message "error creating class ." can be ignored.
  • Do not install in a directory whose path contains a space (for example, "c:\program files\iwork\" is not allowed since "program files" contains a space in it.)
  • For multibrowsing to work properly, either Java needs to be on the system path or Java needs to be in %SystemRoot%\system32\
  • SmartPresenter doesn't work yet.
